Episode #24: Drawing Memories
Hello again! This is Charlie O’Shields back with another episode of Sketching Stuff! What I adore most about sketching and coloring something each and every day is the chance to travel back in time and relive moments of my childhood. I often choose to draw things from my past, as it’s a wonderful way to really take me back to wonderful moments I’ve almost forgotten. So I’ve collected a few of those stories in this episode.

You are so right about teachers and how important they are – for good or bad. I loved school until 4th grade. My teacher that year was so mean. Her name was Arpin and for years she carried an arrow and would use it to poke the kids. By the time I had her, they had taken the arrow away, so instead she’d sneak up on kids, grab them by the neck and shake them so hard she literally lifted them from their seat. Alas, if you didn’t know an answer or got it wrong because she’d spend 15 minutes humiliating you in front of the class. I still loved lessons and learning new things, but school was never the same after that. There was a level of trust that I don’t think I ever got back.
Wow!! She sounds like a terror! 😳Yeah, My 2nd grade teacher used to make us all put our heads down on our desks whenever one kid acted up. My mother still talks about it and thinks it was horrible. I think it does add a level of distrust… but thankfully, I had lots of amazing teachers after that to help me rebuild it again.
