Hey there friends! This is Charlie O’Shields and welcome back to another episode of Sketching Stuff! I always talk about letting my inner child come out to play, and the fact is, that’s not just sometimes, but literally all of the time for me. In my heart, I’m never sitting down to make a piece of art, but simply coloring in my coloring book each day. And, as many of you know, my favorite thing in the world to color with is watercolor!

After releasing a book of illustrated stories last year, I’ve gotten requests for a book that talks about how I sketch stuff. I wasn’t sure what to create. I don’t have much of a technique, really, and I’m not an art teacher. I just like to play and jump in and DO things each day. That’s when the idea hit me! I’ll make an Activity Book like I had when I was a kid. Where you can jump in and Scribble, Doodle, Color with me! For people of all ages and skill levels. So, I did that and the first Sketching Stuff Activity Book is now available on Amazon.com (click here to check it out!).  So, in honor of my new fun book, here’s a fun collection of stories inspired by coloring with watercolor!!

  1. Another great podcast! I love your attitude towards artistic creation. I DO think you are right – the people who learn to ‘play’ at it, stay with it. The people who learn to work with it, don’t.

    1. Thanks, Sandra! 😃💕 Glad you enjoyed this! Yeah… it’s funny isn’t it? We players just keep right on producing things effortlessly. So, I think there’s a happy medium. Keep working and then when things get rough… come play with US!! hehe

  2. First podcast I’ve listened to. Interesting to hear some of your thinking. I read how you said people don’t always read your posts. It’s true! Sometimes I just read the first bit and don’t open it when I’m rushing through emails. I save them to my art folder with the intention of looking later. But Charlie, you are one of my biggest influences because I almost always paint our draw every day now. I don’t always post them ( although I must do some) as I’m not really following your promps just now but creating my own things which are taking a bit longer.

    1. Thanks so much, Eve! 😃💕 That’s so wonderful to hear! hehe… yeah…. I post every single day, so it I know people can’t possibly read them all… that’s why I created the podcast! lol Much easier to just have me on in the background while you’re sketching! Which is what I hope everyone is DOing! It makes my heart so happy to know that you’re making something each day. Keep DOing it! It’s the best thing in the world!
